The Gallery

Current Exhibition - Nadia Attura

Ethereal Worlds - Until July 6th

Gallery-Close was founded in 2016 as one of Scotland's first photographic art galleries that offers buyers the chance to buy work from new and established photographers. It was set up by Chris Close, a photographer with decades of experience working for high end clients, locally and globally.

“In Scotland there were very few spaces for photography to be exhibited and sold, so I opened Gallery-Close, at the time the only commercial gallery dedicated purely to showcasing photography. Coming from a commercial world has meant I know some of the very best photographers working today hence we can take a much broader outlook of the medium than more traditional galleries.”

We pride ourselves on being one of the friendliest galleries to visit. We discourage deliberate obfuscation! Regardless of your knowledge whether you know your Araki from your Ansel Adams your Weston from your Weegee, you will receive a warm welcome. As well as our represented photographers we have in the past we have had work from Capa to Karsh, Don McCullin to Mick Rock.

We appreciate those who like to support small independent businesses and can deliver free across Edinburgh.

The gallery is situated in the heart of the historic Georgian New Town in Edinburgh, mid-way between Princes Street and Stockbridge. It exhibits a variety of photographic work and individually themed exhibitions throughout the year.

We offer a private bespoke service to cater for clients who are looking for specific imagery and can source work and offer advice on style, collectability etc.

Owner, director Chris Close is a long established professional photographer. He has degrees from Westminster and Strathclyde Universities and is a former chair of AOP (Scotland). He also sat on a cross political steering group which aimed to establish the first major photographic centre in Scotland. Sadly this never came to fruition. The experience of working professionally has allowed him a greater knowledge and clarity of photography from a technical, aesthetic and artistic perspective.

“I like to think I have an enlightened view of ‘image making’. I do not draw boundaries between science and art. Most of the greatest, most creative thinkers I have met have been from the worlds of science and literature.”

Should you have any questions, please do get in touch or feel free to pop in or call to arrange a viewing. The kettle is always on and we shall be delighted to discuss the work with you.

Please see the Contact Page to join our mailing list.

To see how a print would look in your home or office please send a JPEG of the wall space where you would like to hang the artwork and we will send you a mock up. Ideally include a measurement, such as an A4 sheet of paper to enable a more accurate scaling.

The Artwork

The artworks sold through the gallery are printed archivally onto the highest quality art paper or silver halide paper.

Fine Art Paper is pH neutral. The inks are pigment based and capable of a much higher gamut (colour range) than traditional inks.

The mounting boards and backing boards are all pH neutral as is the tape used to hold and seal the images and frame. We can offer a choice of standard 2mm float glass, 3mm acrylic or non reflective glass. Each has their pros and cons.

Limited Editions are just that - limited and all of the work is signed by the individual artists.

If you are not entirely satisfied with the quality then please return the work in the same condition for a full refund.

We offer a free delivery service across Edinburgh and can deliver prints framed or otherwise worldwide at the most competitive rates available and fully insured.
