"Armed with a 'pink slip' I was officially allowed 15minutes which turned into 2 hours. Even the security guards were frozen but bemused at the strange looking 6x17cm Panoramic camera they let me stay on. Loading the film was tricky, my hands frozen. The next day I lost a filter holder over the edge of The Twin Towers. Fortunately it fell only a few metres to a ledge below.
It was December and New York, possibly the world's greatest city, was a buzz with the excitement of Christmas; skating in Central Park, The Rockefeller Centre, and horse drawn carriages.
I fell in love with this city. There is no where quite like it. Loud, brash, exciting, friendly, unfriendly. This is a city where things happen."
